Formerly known as Ricketts Island, our island paradise has a rich past, echoing tales of the transatlantic slave trade and colonial influences, creating a backdrop that adds depth to your stay.
In addition to the beautiful beaches, you can visit the 18th century cemetery where English and Portuguese as well as Sierra Leoneans are buried, see cannon from the early 1800s still perched on their ramparts, see the Portuguese wrought iron lamp posts used for centuries to signal ships and the mainland, visit the local church which is one of the oldest buildings on the island, walk through the village and talk with its inhabitants, see coastal nesting areas bursting with water fowl, go hiking through the jungle to Ricketts, take a boat ride past oyster beds lying in pristine blue waters on the outer coast, climb to the hilltop to view the spectacular Western Peninsula Montains while watching for monkeys, go fishing with local fishermen in a traditional canoe and catch your own dinner!
